It's easy to set up an eMeeting- after all the link to Create Meeting is right there in the menu bar:
It's easy to enroll in one, too. Maybe too easy. If a user clicks Enroll in the list of events, there's no 'are you sure you wanna' dialog boxes, no 'do you wanna send this email confirmation' dialog box pops up. Nothin. Click enroll and you're enrolled. But try to unenroll. Go ahead I dare you. And please tell me if you're successful because I haven't figured out how to unenroll someone from an eMeeting. I also can't enroll anyone else, or check to see if someoene is enrolled if they aren't sure. If you call me for help, remember that :)
I've gotta say I think it's worth the extra click or two to use symposium, unless it really is a spur of the minute quick little meeting.
Why can't we have a Create an Event link at the top of the menu??
From my personal experience any microphone should be fine to use with centra. . .
There are plenty of computer headsets (headphones and microphone) and computer stand-alone microphones (to be used with computer speakers) for 25 dollars or so.
If you're capturing video you might want a stand alone mic, so the video doesn't make you look like an alien with something sticking out of your head (that'd be the headset mic). If you only have a mic, tho, you'll have to use your computer speakers. Fine if you have an office door you can close or if you don't care if your co-workers listen in. Ya might ask them...
Headsets work great- you just have to choose how much you want to pay for extras. I like behind the ear. It doesn't mess the hair as much, and seems to stay in place better, but that's me. Then there are noise-reduction ones that claim to block out noise around you, and foldable ones that you can put in with your tablet (which I do have), extra bass (why?) and other gaming-centric features which aren't necessary in most cases, but may be fun.
Logitech, Cyber Acoustics and Plantronics are some of the brands available.
If you're looking around you might check:

To allow guest attendees in a symposium event leave these two unchecked in the event details (where you enter time, date etc):
- Attendees must be registered users
- Attendees must be pre-enrolled
We strongly recommend running a system check before the event to ensure that centra will work on guests computers.
