New plants in the ECG

Some of you may have noticed that there are several stick sticking out of the ground on the north side of the garden. Well, part of the beautification process is to also demonstrate some of the possible edible fruit plants that may do well in NorthCentral Texas blacklands. There are 2 Asian Pears, 2 Asian persimmons, 2 nectarines and several grape vines. Keep an eye on these trees as they get to bearing age (2-3 years).

This will be demonstration plots that will be put together by the Collin County Master Gardeners. This volunteer group is collaborating with the ECG@Dallas on many levels. This is one of their projects where they will be installing 4 garden beds of identical size but filled with different plants. It is an attempt to simulate the backyard garden. Our goal is to show folks what can be done in their backyard, so to encourage them to do so. EarthKind roses will the highlight in these beds. Each garden bed will be documented so that folk can know what they are looking at and also know what to purchase if they want to "do up" their yards. We hope that these bed will be completed in about 6-8 weeks. Stay tuned...
