Rain...rain...FLOOD!

ECGFloodSM.jpg
We have been getting so much rain that the amount of water that pooled in certain areas of the gardens caught us by surprise. Nonetheless, Scherle is taking the opportunity to utilize "Lake TAMU-Dallas" as a RAIN GARDEN site. We hope to have this site with potential water loving plants in 4-6 weeks. This mini-project was not planned but we felt that folks in the metroplex can benefit from seeing a demonstration site while we collect some data in regards to what might work for us here in North Texas......
I am predicting that rainy weather will stop just as we get the final touches of the rain garden in (Mr. Murphy's Law).

Good food...

ECGPotLuck_02sm.jpg
We had our potluck on June 7, 2007. This is a little get-together for all participants of the ECG. Unfortunately, many folks are tied up during the day on week days. We will have to plan for another party for the weekend. For those who did not make the potluck - you missed out on ZUCCHINI curry and a bunch of other goodies. Oh well... next time then.

Garden denizen

swallowtail_01sm.jpg
Fellow gardeners. Look around in the ECG@Dallas for catepillars. These can be found in the fennel or dill plants, as well on some other plants. These are swallowtail caterpillars. They will become beautiful butterflies...if they do not become bird food first!!!

Master Gardener Produces

MG%20Produce.JPGJanet holds a few items that the MG plots produced. Master gardeners have donated over 100 pounds of produce this past month. ECG has donated over 400 pounds of produce.

Garden Denizen Part 2

chrysalis.JPGIf you have seen the denizen you need to look for his next stage. The chrysalis in this picture is quite mature and the butterfly is soon going to emerge. Prior to the chrysalis being this color it is a very bright green and yellow. This dark version occurs because the wing color is present.
