What is 4-H?

4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills!

The Denton County 4-H and Youth Development Program currently offers several different community clubs and county-wide project clubs in various cities around the county.

Learning

4-H Competitions - Opportunities at County, District, State and even the National level to demonstrate life skills and leadership qualities gained through 4-H project work.

New 4-H Projects - Denton County 4-H is has done a good job at keeping traditional programs such as livestock, foods and clothing going strong while seeking out new project avenues for youth.  Non-traditional projects include:

  • Computer Science - This is a brand new pilot program here in Denton County.  We are excited about the implementation of the curriculum and new opportunities and doors that it will open.
  • GIS/GPS - This program is aimed at teaching 4-H members skills in the usage of GPS units and map making software.
  • JMG - This program is aimed at teaching youth the benefits of gardening with an emphasis on wildlife habitats.
  • WHEP - The Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program is a 4-H youth natural resource program dedicated to teaching wildlife and fisheries habitat management.
