The Secretary of Agriculture has
recently announced his sponsorship of the "Fight Hunger" initiative. The
Secretary, Ed Shafer, wants to encourage individuals and communities to help
alleviate hunger in their communities. As 4-H Clubs search for
community service ideas, this initiative presents itself as an excellent
opportunity to get involved in an area of need that is closely related
to the 4-H work we already do. It also allows us to champion an effort that is
of high interest to one of our cooperative partners, USDA.
In addition to the inherent benefits of
working on this initiative, this community service project is made more
attractive by the support material offered by USDA.
The message below from USDA outlines
the resources available and basic mission of this initiative:
USDA believes that no one in America
should go hungry.
Secretary Ed Schafer recently
introduced the "Fight Hunger Initiative" for individuals and organizations who
want to help USDA fight hunger in each community across America.
