Denton County Junior 4-H Member Recognition Awards

Junior Division: Participants must be 9 or 8 and in the third grade, but have not reached their 11th birthday on August 31, 2008.


4-H members are recognized at the annual 4-H Gold Star Banquet for accomplishments made during the year.  4-Hers who apply for these awards must complete the requirements for the award.  A description of the junior 4-H awards follows.

Bronze Star Award Criteria

Age

  • For Bronze Star Award the 4-H member must be between 8 years of age as of August 31 of the current 4-H year and enrolled in 3rd grade and 10 years old and must have completed at least one year in 4-H, including the current year.                 

Judging

  • The 4-H member must submit an awards program recordbook in the year he or she is to be considered for the award.
  • The 4-H member must have completed projects in two different project areas including submission of appropriate record forms and have participated in one or more activities in the following areas:

Method Demonstration                       Project Exhibits

  • The 4-H member must have participated in one or more community service activities.  *****Examples*****  Working or counseling with junior 4-H members; participating in community service projects (individual, group or club-type); and motivating other 4-H members through participation in demonstrations, projects and/or exhibits.

Awards

Each year Denton County has the opportunity to select up to two 4-H members to be recognized as Bronze Star 4-Hers.  This may be received only once in their career.  Winners of the Bronze Star award shall receive:

The Presidential Volunteer Service Award

The period for service must fall between August 20, 2008 and June 19, 2009.

 

Junior 4-H Achievement Award

Criteria

  • All Junior 4-H members are eligible to receive this award each year.
  • The 4-H member must submit an awards program recordbook in the year he or she is to be considered for the award.
  • The 4-H member must submit a 4-H Achievement Award Application in the year he or she is to be considered for the award.
  • The 4-H member must participate in a face-to-face interview with a selection panel on the appropriately scheduled day. 
  • The requirements may be completed in one year or within the time that a member is a Junior. Each activity or event may only be counted once.
  • Judging areas of consideration:  4-H Project Work 33%, Leadership Activities 33%, Community Service 34%

Awards

Junior 4-H Achievement Award winners will receive a certificate and small prize.
