Denton County Senior 4-H Member Recognition Awards

Senior Division: Participants must be between 14 and 18 on August 31, 2008.


4-H members are recognized at the annual 4-H Gold Star Banquet for accomplishments made during the year.  4-Hers who apply for these awards must complete the requirements for the award.  A description of the senior awards follows.

Gold Star, Danforth "I Dare You", Farm Bureau CitizenshipAward Criteria

Age

  • For Gold Star Award the 4-H member must be at least 15 years of age as of August 31 of the current 4-H year and must have completed at least three years in 4-H, including the current year.  
  • For Danforth "I Dare You" Award the 4-H member must be at least 15 and not have passed their 18th birthday as of August 31st, have completed their freshman year in high school, show outstanding qualities in servant leadership and have completed at least two years in 4-H including the current year.
  • For Farm Bureau Citizenship Award the 4-H member must be at least 15 years of age as of August 31 of the current 4-H year and must have completed at least two years in 4-H, including the current year. 

Judging

  • The 4-H member must submit an awards program recordbook in the year he or she is to be considered for the awards.
  • The 4-H member must participate in a face-to-face interview with a selection panel on the appropriately scheduled day. 
  • The 4-H member must have completed projects in three different project areas including submission of appropriate record forms and have participated in one or more activities in at least three of the following areas:

Method Demonstration                                  Camps

Citizenship Activities                                       Leadership Lab

Project Exhibits

Public Relations (demonstrations, speeches, poster displays, radio, TV, newspaper, etc)

Other (exchange programs, State & National Congress, Leadership Tour)

*****NOTE*****  It is not expected that the above requirements for projects and activities be completed in the current year.  They may have been accomplished over the entire period of time the 4-Her has been in the 4-H program. 

  • During his or her years in 4-H, the member must have exhibited leadership skills by serving as a 4-H officer or committee chairman (club, county, district or state), and/or as a junior or teen leader in an activity or project with or under the supervision of an adult volunteer. 
  • The 4-H member must have participated in one or more community service activities.  *****Examples*****  Working or counseling with junior 4-H members; participating in community service projects (individual, group or club-type); and motivating other 4-H members through participation in demonstrations, projects and/or exhibits.

Awards

Each year Denton County has the opportunity to select up to two 4-H members to be recognized as Gold Star 4-Hers.  This is the highest award given by the 4-H program and may be received only once in their career.  Winners of the Gold Star award shall receive:

Kiwanis Scholarship

Graham/Gamble Scholarship

4-H Award Watch

Plaque

 

 

Two Danforth "I Dare You" award winners may be selected each year.  Winners of the Danforth Award shall receive:

Danforth Book

Plaque

 

Two Farm Bureau Citizenship award winners may be selected each year.  Winner of the Farm Bureau Citizenship Award shall receive a plaque.

Mrs. Deanna Trussell and Mrs. Diane Schwind will serve as Denton County advisors to this program.

 

The Presidential Volunteer Service Award

Please review the separate program packet for complete details.

The period for service must fall between August 20, 2008 and June 19, 2009.

 

Senior 4-H Achievement Award

Criteria

  • All Senior 4-H members are eligible to receive this award each year.
  • The 4-H member must submit an awards program recordbook in the year he or she is to be considered for the award.
  • The 4-H member must submit a 4-H Achievement Award Application in the year he or she is to be considered for the award.
  • The 4-H member must participate in a face-to-face interview with a selection panel on the appropriately scheduled day. 
  • The requirements may be completed in one year or within the time that a member is a Senior. Each activity or event may only be counted once.
  • Judging areas of consideration:  4-H Project Work 33%, Leadership Activities 33%, Community Service 34%

Awards

Senior 4-H Achievement Award winners will receive a certificate and small prize.
