Explore the world by participating in a homestay program this summer. Develop new friendships and share cultures, customs and heritage. Open your heart and home to a delegate from Japan or allow your teenage to travel to Japan for a month-long homestay. The homestays are sponsored by Texas Global Education and Cultural Exchange (TGE) and their partner organizations in Japan. My home stay in Japan was AMAZING! I don't even think that describes it enough. It was the best summer of my life.Get ready for your best summer: Plan an amazing summer for your child(ren) by applying to be a host family or by encouraging your teen to apply for a homestay in Japan, Greece or Australia.
Inbound:
- Japan - July 22 - Aug. 20. We will need 30 - 35 host families for delegates (age 12 - 17) and chaperons.
- Greece - July 22 - Aug. 13 or 22 (tentative) We will need 8 - 10 host families for delegates (age 15 - 18).
Host Family:
The rewards for welcoming a student or chaperone into your home are numerous:increased compassion for people new to a different culture; increased skills in adapting to differences in values and behavior; improved language and communication skills; new friendships.Outbound:
- All Texas delegates must be 14 - 18 years of age and the applications are due March 1.
- Japan - July 8 - Aug 6. Delegates must be selected to participate.
- Australia - July 24 - Aug. 9. A minimum of 10 delegates required.
- Greece - Tentative dates are June 30 - July 22. Six to ten delegates will be selected to participate.
Homestay in Japan (or Greece or Australia): Your teen (14-18 years old) can reap the rewards of being a part of another family this summer. He or she will be treated like a family member and learn about the culture, food, language from the day-to-day interactions with his "brother" or "sister" for 2-4 weeks. Host families and potential delegates are screened prior to being accepted.
