West Texas Youth Veterinary Science Workshop

We are pleased to announce the sixth annual West Texas  Youth Veterinary Science Workshop.  This year's workshop will be held at the Tom Green County 4-H Center in San Angelo, Texas from June 21st  through June 25th,  2009.

The objective of the week-long event is to expose youth to careers in  veterinary science.  Instructors will include university and research faculty, Texas Cooperative Extension personnel, Texas Animal Health Commission personnel, and veterinary practitioners.  Course topics will include: the beef quality assurance program, toxicology, parasitology, anaesthesiology, anatomy, nutrition, first aid, beef feedlot health management, large & small animal practice, zoology, necropsy, horse medicine, and more. Activities will involve classroom study, lab work, and field excursions.
The planning committee is inviting thirty youth from all across the state of Texas to attend.  Participants must be of high school age, have an interest in veterinary science, and be willing to participate as a team member during the week-long camp.  In addition four Adult Leaders can to serve as project leaders.  This is an excellent opportunity for Extension Agents, Teachers, and 4-H Volunteer Leaders to learn more about this field.

Applications can be requested from your 4-H Agent.  Completed and approved applications must be mailed by Friday, May 29th, 2009.  Participants will be informed of their acceptance to camp by June 5th.

Cost of the camp will be $200.00, with payment for the camp due on June 10th .  In the event of cancellations, refunds will be offered in full.  After June 15th,  the payment is non-refundable.
