A new contest will be introduced at this year's State 4-H Roundup. Keep reading to learn more about the 4-H Food Challenge
A few important reminders as you make plans to implement the 4-H Food Challenge
in your program:
- The 4-H Food Challenge is a great way to re-energize the 4-H foods and
nutrition project by offering the experience at project workshops, leader
trainings and even to afterschool groups.
- The 4-H Food Challenge will be conducted on Wednesday, June 9, at the 2010
Texas 4-H Roundup.
- Take time to read the 4-H Food Challenge Manual. The official manual is
available online from the AgriLife Bookstore or on the Texas 4-H Website.
- The manual states that 2 junior/intermediate teams and 2 senior teams may
advance from county to the district contest. This means that teams will be
judged by age divisions at the county level.
- Four senior teams can advance from district to the state 4-H food challenge.
The 1st place team from each category will advance. But, remember - teams
advancing to state will not automatically be assigned to the same category in
which they competed at district. Categories will be randomly assigned.
- Teams will NOT
be judged on how close they get to preparing the actual recipe. Instead, teams
will be rewarded for creativity.
- A 4-H Food Challenge planning checklist is being developed. When complete, the tool will be posted online at: http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/agents/foodchallenge.html
