This is a short entry to make you aware of a new e-mail service that I plan to start offering in January 2008.
Dr. Jason Banta, Extension Beef Cattle Specialist at Overton, has been compiling packer cow and bull/steer
sales data from the Crockett, Sulphur Springs, and Athens livestock sale barns on a bi-weekly basis.
Bull/steer data is averaged from the three sale barns and depicted in a graph showing averages for the 300-400 lb, 400-500 lb, and 500 > lb weight ranges. Packer cow data is averaged from the three sale barns and depicted in a graph showing high and low prices received.
The goal is to provide producers with a glimpse of what the price trends have been in the region, so that marketing decisions can be made. The information provided is not intended to encourage producers to use a particular sale barn but to provide general information on what the regional mabrket is doing.
If you would like to start receiving this information e-mailed to you as it becomes available, you need to do the following:
1) E-mail me at b-triplett@tamu.edu and in the message write "subscribe cattle price trends". I will send them out as attached PDF files to you in January,as they become available to me from Dr. Banta.
2) Check your computer to ensure that you can view Adobe PDF files. You can download Adobe Acrobat viewer for free from the following web site: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
If you would like to see what these data look like, you can view the latest edition of the bull/steer or packer cow data which is currently posted at the Smith County Extension office web site.
