Public Interest: February 2009 Archives

Trichomoniasis is a disease that causes infertility and occasional abortions in cows and heifers.  Trichomonas fetus, the protozoan that causes the disease, can be found in the reproductive tracts of bulls and cows.

The Texas Animal Health Commission adopted new Trichomoniasis regulations at their meeting in Austin February 24, 2009.

The following is a lengthy press release from the TAHC about the new program, part of which takes effect on April 1, 2009.

The Smith County Farm Bureau is sponsoring a 'Farmer's Share Breakfast' in honor of Farm Bureau's celebration of 'Food Check Out Week' 2009.  Food Check Out Week is designed to honor the American farmer and the nutritious bounty provided in our agricultural products.

The Farmer's Share Breakfast will be held on Thursday, February 19, from 7 AM to 9 AM at Dwayne's Country Cafe in Tyler.  The first 100 customers during that time period who order 1 of 3 special breakfasts will receive their meal for $1 (tax, tip & drink excluded) which reflects the 'farmer's share' of the meal (19 cents out of every dollar).

For more information, contact the Smith County Farm Bureau office at 903-596-0690.
