We had a very good meeting with Ms. Ellen Ahmann yesterday about our
upcoming fund-raiser. This is an incredible opportunity for our 4-H program
here in Smith County. This fund-raiser has the potential to net a large amount
of money and will hopefully make it possible to send more kids to camps such as
YES Camp and Leadership Lab. It will help fund your kids to go to round up and
other events and activities. If it brings in enough money, this could mean that
many of these activities would be paid for out of the council funds instead of
your pockets. Our particular time slot is May 27-May 30. The biggest day that we
need volunteers for will be that Saturday but we will need volunteers to sell
drinks and snacks on all 4 days and will need some older kids to work the crafts
corner on the weekend. We will be having a silent auction and need to get
donations for the auction. I would like each 4-H family to come up with one
item to sell in the Silent Auction. Because many of the people at this show
will be from out of town, items should be something that if they are bought by
somebody from out of the Tyler area, they could still be used and enjoyed. If
your 4-Her has something nice they have done for a 4-H project, such as really
neat wood working project they did, a framed photograph they took, etc. these
would be neat items to auction. We want to make sure that we offer good quality
items at our silent auction. As you get things donated please let me know who
donated the item so that we do not ask that person more than once to
contribute. I will be coming up with a work schedule sign up sheet soon. I am
aware that this is Graduation Weekend and understand if all of you cannot make
it to this event but please, as many as we can come up need to sign up for this.
Please remember that this fund-raiser will be an incredible benefit to all of
the kids in the program and will open numerous event opportunities for
them.
We will be gathering donations for the Silent Auction starting now so lets
get busy!
Thank you for all that you do!!

What better way to bring lessons to life than with a hands-on quilting project. The Quilt Challenge is an opportunity to 4-H members work on their math skills as they learn to quilt. This is a reminder that quilt challenge fabric is available and quilts need to be completed prior to State Roundup. All quilts from the quilt challenge are donated to cause determined by each of the quilt makers.
There are a lot of wonderful quilting resources out there. One in particular is the Quilt Quest from the University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension. http://4h.unl.edu//programs/curriculum/preview/QuiltQuestInbetween.html
If you don't feel qualified to teach quilting, contact one of over 100 quilting guilds across the state for assistance. The following links have locations and contacts for each guild.
