OCTOBER 1-4, 2009
Rock Eagle 4-H Center
Eatonton, Georgia

The mission of the Southern Region 4-H Volunteer Forum (SRVF) is to increase the capacity of volunteers and salaried staff to contribute to the achievement of the mission of 4-H Youth Development and the Cooperative Extension system.  The primary purpose of the SRVF is to educate and prepare participants to share the information that they learned and practice the skills that they have developed, through participating in the forum, at home in their own 4-H programs and activities.

The Texas 4-H Volunteer Leaders' Association of Texas (VLAT) offers scholarships to 4-H volunteers interested in participating in the Southern Region Volunteer Forum and are willing to come back to Texas to share what they learned.  Scholarships cover the registration fee of $225.00.  The deadline for registration and scholarship applications is August 14, 2009.  All applications should be mailed to Courtney Dodd at the state 4-H office:
 7607 Eastmark Drive, Suite 101
 College Station, TX  77840

If you think you may be interested in attending the SRVF, check the links below and give Sarah a call.

Special thanks to the 4-H members who provided the educational presentations to us, the peer review committee from throughout the state for their review and input, and to Jennifer Jahedkar in Extension eLearning.

Here is a web page that I put together last year that might help explain how to put public speaking presentations together.  Thanks to member Bethany Rudd who did an awesome job on the video!

I might need to update a few links, but looks like most of the important stuff if still active.

Quality Counts

| | Comments (0)

quality_counts_header.jpgQuality does count when it comes to how you raise and show your livestock project.  Too often we get caught up in the hardware.  What in the world is hardware you ask?  Well, those are the dinner plate-sized buckles, rainbow coloroed ribbons, and sky-high trophies.  It's also the cold hard cash.

Livestock projects are intended to be a tool to teach youth how to raise breeding or market animals...period.  Somewhere along the way livestock shows have gotten away from its original purpose of helping educate our youth so that they know and can apply such skills as selection, feeding, marketing, breeding, and record-keeping.  It is time to refocus on what is important.
