Welcome!
Welcome to the TCE Blog on Tourism!
This is new (September 2007) and I want your ideas and feed back.
Technology and Tourism are good friends, sites like Travelocity, Hotel.com etc are well known but resources for ecotourism, nature tourism, wildlife enterprise development, community nature festivals, etc. have been primarily international in scope.
This Blog is intended to provide a location for sharing ideas, needs, examples of nature tourism in Texas while learning from sources worldwide. I welcome comments and questions related to communities or individual businesses.
The Texas Cooperative Extension Nature Tourism Program (http://naturetourism.tamu.edu ) uses four categories to describe types of operations.
1) Agricultural Tourism (Agritourism)
2) Hunting
3) Fishing
4) Adventure (This is the catch all term and is widely used for a variety of activities)
Although we use the term Nature Tourism, in most cases there is little practical difference from the term Ecotourism. However it is important to understand how all these terms are used and the significance of these terms to the market and importantly to the Agencies, and Companies the fund, certify and/or market these operations.
I will soon be making a trip to attend the 2nd! Ecotourism in North America Conference, in Madison, Wisconsin and then will present a new wildlife business financial planning program at the Watchable Wildlife conference in October. This program can found at the TCE nature tourism web site under Business Planning
I will be posting notes from my experiences from both these conferences
In the meantime I hope you will attend the Nature Tourism presentations and program that will be part of the Texas Travel Industry Summit Conference the Sept 23-26, in Houston! http://www.ttia.org
