Many specialists, agents, and researchers find it very useful to give their secretaries proxy access to their email account. What does that mean? When you use the Proxy feature in GroupWise, you can manage another user's Mailbox and Calendar. Proxy lets you perform various actions, such as reading email, replying to it, as well as accepting, and declining items on behalf of another user, within the restrictions the other user sets.
To set up proxy access, you must complete a two steps process. Both steps are very simple and only take a second or two to complete. First, the person for whom you will act as proxy must grant you rights in their Proxy Access List. Second, you must add that user's name to your Proxy List so you can access his or her Mailbox or Calendar.
After these two steps are complete, you can open your Proxy List and click the name of the person you're proxying for whenever you need to manage his or her Mailbox or Calendar.
If you work for the Ag Program, like it or not email is a big part of our lives. Seems like we do everything by email. For example, I rarely talk on the phone to my colleagues in College Station or around the state, but we tend to have daily email exchanges and discussions. So, I guess you could say I have virtual colleagues!
Like all forms of communication, there are rules, common courtesies, and proper etiquettes for email messages. After receiving several hundred emails this month, I noticed that maybe not all folks are aware of these rules or courtesies. So, I am going to use this Tech OPS to educate you about email etiquette, so you can use email more effectively.
According to Wikipedia, etiquette "is the code that governs the expectations of social behavior, the conventional norm. It is an unwritten code, which evolves from written rules." If you would like to read more from Wikipedia, click here.
With the roll out of GroupWise 7 (GW7) this year, you now have more options on the way GroupWise looks and feels. One of the new features is Color Schemes. This Tech OPS entry will work you through changing your GroupWise 7 color scheme. You have the choice of blue, olive green, silver, sky blue, spring green, and sterling silver.
If you have not upgraded to GW7, you should unless you are using Windows 95, 98 or NT. GW 7 can be found on the Fall 2005 County Support CD for county offices or you install it from the GroupWise Online Help website.
On Feb 1, I posted a Tech OPS entry titled "Photo Story 3 and TECO". In that entry, I had a please read statement that stated, " To avoid copyright issues, I suggest you use only original audio and photos you have created or taken."
Ok, so the question is how to add original music to your Photo Story project. Well luckily Photo Story has hundreds of "canned" tunes that you can freely add to your photo story. These selections range from Beethoven to Funk.
Creating and adding music to your Photo Story project is very simple. The hardest part is narrowing down the genre and style. If you need to review how to get started with Photo Story, click here.
On Jan 6, I posted a OPS entry about a new free application from Microsoft titled Photo Story 3 for Windows XP. To view the entry, click here.
In the description, I commented that this application could be used for 4H and interpretative events, educational programs, attachments to emails, or added to your TECO website for a photo album type object. Well several of you have wanted to know when the entry for TECO and Photo Story 3 was going to make it to press. How about NOW!
Please check out the example I did on the TECO demo website at http://county-co.tamu.edu. Look under Publication > Great Event Photos > Cross Plains Fire Jan 2006 or use the cross link on the Home page. For 2 more examples, please check out Sutton County's website at http://sutton-tx.tamu.edu > Click on Sutton County Year in Review in the Hot Link section, or the Pecos County website at http://pecos-tx.tamu.edu. Just click on the Pecos County Video.
Couple of things to keep in mind:
- You can only upload projects in the Newsletter and Publication sections; however, you could cross link them to the Home-Hot Link, Events, or Links sections.
- Keep file size in mind when you upload a project because the larger the file the longer it will take to load for clientele.
- Third, try to keep your photo size small like 640x480 or 800x600, again saving file size
