Want to be Cool too? Add new sounds to your PowerPoint
Ever wonder where those cool EIT folks get those great sound effects for their PowerPoints? Well today is your lucky day. I am going to show you a little know secret about how you to can become a cool PowerPoint user. And it is all FREE!
- Start PowerPoint
- Start a New PowerPoint
- You will need to turn on the Task Panel if it is not already on, so Click on View > Task Panel
- From the Task Panel, use the pull down arrow to select Clip Art

- At the very bottom of the Task Panel there is a link titled, "Clip Art from Office Online". Click on this Link

- At this point a browser window will open to the Microsoft Office Online website – Design Slides webpage
NOTE – It is much simpler to download and use the online resource if you are using Internet Explorer. I recommend that you copy and paste the URL to Internet Explorer if it is not your default Browser.
- On the MS Office Online Clip Art website scroll down the webpage until you reach the “Browse Clip Art and Media Categories” section. Once there select a category. (Example - Communications)
NOTE – The default web setting is to show you ALL clip art for that category. If you want to see just sounds you have to a filter to the search. In the left hand panel under "Filter by Type", select Sounds
- To listen to the sound, simple click the horn icon (Example – Funny Car Horn)
NOTE – This is an excellent method to shop for sounds without having to download them.
- Once you have decided on a sound, the next step is to capture it. The easiest method is using copy and paste. Simply, click on the Copy and Paste clipboard icon

- Go to PowerPoint, select the slide in which you wish to embed the sound, and paste it. (Paste is most easily done by using the Right-click and selecting Paste)
- Congratulations! You have now successfully added a new sound to your PowerPoint. I encourage you try out some other cool things on this site like clip art, photos, and animations.
