Printing Web Pages with FireFox

| | Comments (0)

Since I have started this blog, I have had several folks say, "When I print off your instructions I lose the right hand text and graphics". The next question is, "How do I fix that?"

Well if you are a user of Internet Explorer, there is hope. IE 7, which is due out some time in the near future, is going to have a Print Preview that will let you print web pages correctly without chopping off the right hand content. However, great news, there is no reason to wait on Microsoft because there is a solution already out there in the World!

Say hello to Firefox 1.5! With just a simple click on Print Preview, you can print webpages with all the content on the right hand side.

What is Tabbed Browsing?

| | Comments (0)

That is what I was thinking the first time I read about this feature. If you are using Netscape 8.0 or Firefox 1.07, you can use tabbed browsing (Sorry you IE fans, this option is not available with the current version of IE 6). Basically, tabbed browsing lets you open tabs, each displaying a web page, within a single browser window. You can also "browse ahead" with tabbed browsing. If you are on a long web page, you can load links in new tabs. The linked web pages will load in tabs while you read the current page.

This entry will show you how to setup and use tabbed browsing using Firefox. If you are using Netscape and want to try tabbed browsing, click here.

If you don't have Firefox, please download it by clicking here!

I hope this title has sparked your interest and you will give this tip a try. As of 2 minutes ago you were officially surfing the web. That meant if you wanted information you went to out to the web and either typed in the URL of the desired website, or you did a search with a search engine, like Google. Welcome to the new web, where content, news, and info comes to you. This is the whole concept behind Live Bookmarks or Live Content.

What does that mean? With one glance, you can quickly see the latest headlines from your favorite sites, and go directly to the articles that interest you with out having to wade through multiple web pages; thus, saving you time and effort.

FireFox 1.0.7, Netscape 8.0, and Internet Explorer 7 (which is due to be released this summer) all support Live Bookmarks or Live Content. If you would like to read more about each, please visit the Firefox, Netscape, and Internet Explorer websites.

This entry will show you how to setup and use Firefox's Live Bookmarks.

Here's one just for fun to go along with all your new Google skills!

Google is used internationally and offers advanced preferences that include selecting a comfortable interface language. I'm not sure Elmer Fudd (or Ewmew Fudd as he would call himself) is anyone's native language, but it is fun!

Here's how to customize your Google.

GoogleToolbar

Back on Oct 13 I a posted a entry telling you about the Google Earth 3D interface of the planet website. This product allowed you to combine satellite imagery, maps and the power of Google Search to put the world's geographic information at your fingertips. This week I am going to recommend that you give another Google product a try. First let me state for the record, I am not a fan of toolbars, but the Google toolbar has changed my mind, some.

The Google Toolbar offers 12 or so features to enhance your browser experience. Some of these that I have found useful are Google Search from the toolbar, Spellchecking, Pop-up Blocker, and Auto link. If you want to know more about all the Google Toolbar links, please visit Google Toolbar Features. There is a Google toolbar for both Internet Explorer and FireFox.
